Week 7. Reflection on Biblical Emotional Equivalent Lesson 7 The spirit is the residence of intuition, dreams, visions and revelation of the deepest intimacy and the most direct kind of knowledge. The primary functions of the spirit are wisdom, perception and knowledge. That means having our spiritual eyes and ears opened to spiritual reality. This is not dependent on human intellect, rather it is a gift from God but could be achieved by and through prayer and studying the word. Spiritual sensitivity can affect our emotion in that it gives us the right spiritual passion as if we were using the eyes and heart of Jesus. It makes us to be grounded in faith and not be full of fleshly control, anxiety and fear even when under pressure. It can also help to stabilize the emotions of other people around us. On the other hand when men are not spiritually sensitive or perceptive, implying that they are dull of hearing to the point of senselessness - spirit of stupor, they live a life with no spiritual awareness, though they may be religious. They are 4 main causes of spiritual problems in human spirit or life. These are sin, folly, trauma and spiritual attacks. 1. Sin: There are spiritual problems based on sin such as haughty spirit which comes from pride. The next is the sin of unbelief. To deal with these, the individual must recognized his condition and with the word of God repent in earnest and be awakened by the spirit of God. 2. Folly: This is an abiding disposition of foolishness, rather than one of a mistake. Such people demonstrated lack of personal insight and wisdom, they are unbalanced and unwise and unable to make good judgments. They are frequently stubborn and unteachable. Among this group are those with errant spirit, perverse spirit, a hasty spirit, a sullen spirit and inappropriate spirit of jealousy. Prayer, teachings are discipline are the major prescriptions. 3. Trauma: some spiritual problems are based on suffering or trauma. When the trauma of life is so deep and so overwhelming that it has affected their human spirit. Their spirit can be described to be broken, failing, poisonous, overwhelmed, grief or anguished. The damage to the human spirit is beyond the normal upsets of life and is comparable to those incurred by rape, violent death, divorce, deep injustice. To help these kind of people great love and patients. 4 Spiritual Attacks: This could be just harassment by an evil spirit external to the human spirit.1.Minor attacks –generally attacks on moods and major attacks-attacks that go deep into the spirit and involve a change in consciousness observably to others. This is not demon possession but attacks. This can produce helplessness, despair and discouragement etc. they may come suddenly, controlling the thinking and emotions in a negative direction for a while. On the other hand, in major attacks the consciousness of the person is greatly affected. A second personality or consciousness may take over the human spirit and speak with a different voice. A trance state may occur during which the person may perform some sinful actions which he may not recollect afterward. In this case exorcism (deliverance) is recommended.
