CHAPTER STUDY QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS CHAPTERS 5 & 6
CHAPTER STUDY QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS WEEK 3 (CHAPTERS 5 & 6) CHAPTER 5 Question 1: Write the key verse from memory. Answer: And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people (Matthew 9:35) Question 2: For each of the following, summarize what you learned in this lesson. How did Jesus use… Answer: 2) Miracles: Jesus used miracles to demonstrate the power of God to attract people to hear the word of God. Also, to teach God’s messages and to confirm the truth and authenticity of biblical messages. 3) Authority: Authority was also used by Jesus to attract listeners to the gospel. 4) Love and Compassion: Jesus used love and compassion by showing concern and empathy to various people and cities He ministered to. He did not condemn people but treated them with love and compassion. 5) Association & Imitation: Jesus called His disciples to be with Him because of the importance of association to be able to impart unto them His teachings. By imitation His disciples were made like Him for the purpose of participation and preaching the gospel with exemplary lifestyle as well as to demonstrate God’s power. 6) Response: Jesus always expected a response from His hearers whenever He taught. He used this method to ensure that His listeners would not only be hearers of the word but doers also. 7) Delegation: Jesus applied delegation method as He desired to reproduce Himself in view of His eventual return to His Father. Thus duties were delegated to them to enable them to carry on His work till His second coming. 8) Environment: This method was used by Jesus to analyze His listeners by relating the truths He taught to every day life situations. Knowing them and their cultural environments made it possible for Him to effectively apply the word to their lives, as He ministered to their special needs. 9) Visual Demonstration: Visual methods are used to illustrate the messages taught. Thus Jesus used available objects from His teaching environment to illustrate biblical truths for a clear understanding of the people. 10) The Principle of Learning: This method was used by Jesus to ensure that what He taught them would be effectively absorbed. Thus His hearers and disciples were not bored by His messages. Rather, they received as He gave them in bits and this affected their lives positively. 11) Grouping of Students: Jesus used this method to enable Him to effectively convey the messages He intended for a particular group with or without interruptions and ensure proper understanding. CHAPTER 6 Q. 1 Write the key verse from memory. Answer: And when He was come into His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, whence hath this man wisdom, and these mighty works? (Matthew 13:54). Question: Write a brief summary of the following teaching methods used by Jesus. Answer: 2) Known To Unknown: This has to do with using what is familiar to the people to explain what they do not know, for quick and proper understanding. 3) General to Specific: In this method, a general revelation is made, and then specific detail is added. Thus generalizing a teaching in the first place, after which it is restricted to a specific object. This gives a perfect understanding of the teaching. 4) Object Lessons: This is the same as visual aids discussed in the previous chapter. It also helps to illustrate biblical teachings for an effective understanding. 5) Questions and Answers: Jesus used this method to stimulate the thinking of His hearers. This was designed to make them reason and draw conclusions on the lessons taught. This method could be used in various ways to aid in all areas of the teaching ministry. 6) Parables: This is used to illustrate a biblical truth. Jesus used a natural example and compared it to a spiritual truth. This requires explanation to be perfectly understood. However, objects that are familiar to members of the audience in their cultural setting should be applied in all parables, even as Jesus did. 7) Case Histories: This is also used to illustrate biblical truths but involves historical stories of what had actually happened. Example is the story of Lazarus and the rich man. Modern case histories can also be used in our time. 8) Use of Scripture: This has to do with the quoting of scriptures often especially while one prays or ministers, for effective accomplishment of spiritual purposes. 9) Contrasts: These are used to teach spiritual differences (i.e. comparing opposite situations). 10) Problems: Problems can be used to teach lessons on life issues. Jesus used it to teach spiritual truths, and this is worthy of emulation. 11) Occasions: By this method, Jesus used occasions to teach biblical lessons. Thus we can take advantage of any occasion to teach spiritual truth as they occur from time to time.
